What's Your Story?
Meet Jeff Price Written by: Kassi Galbreath
For 17- year old Jeff Price, the last year has certainly brought along an abundance of change. In fact, at this time last year, Jeff’s life was headed in a completely different direction. Between losing sight of what God intended his life to be and allowing the fire of love and adoration for Christ that he had in his heart slowly fade to a memory, Jeff found himself making foolish decisions and almost entirely losing the faith he once had so much of.
I was interested in other things like parties and hanging out with friends that I should not have been hanging around with that were doing things I shouldn't have been doing. Jeff admits. But what Jeff didn't realize at the time was that the winds of change were just beginning to blow his way, and the fire he had inside him not long ago for Christ was about to be ignited once again.
The first change came along when Jeff’s youth pastor left the church he was presently attending.
Once Ray left, the youth ministry was not all that great and church suddenly just became blank to me, said Jeff. Gradually the youth ministry that had once motivated him to live for Christ disappeared, and with time, Jeff’s church attendance began to dwindle and do the same. With each week that passed, Jeff felt his spiritual life just barely hanging on by a thread, while he unknowingly continued taking step after step away from his faith. Months later, as his mom was surfing the web, she stumbled across The Pointe logo and felt the presence of God nudging her to give it a try. I had always wanted to try it out when the church got started because of Ray. So after a while of my family and myself not going to church at all, we went to The Pointe for the first time - only to enjoy it more than any of us thought we would, said Jeff.
NEXT THING YOU KNOW
Almost immediately Jeff jumped right in the midst of all the excitement going on and started to make a new home.
When I first talked to Ray, since it had been such a long time, we just caught up for a while, and I realized that this was where I was supposed to be. The next day I attended my first Bible study in four years, and I loved the environment, loved the people, and had a great time all around. Throughout the next few weeks, I kept going to Bible study, finding out that my life was finally getting back on track because of the people around me and the new church that I had instantly fallen in love with.
Jeff rekindled his relationship with Christ, surrounded himself with friends who uplifted him spiritually, and allowed his friends and family the chance to marvel as he began to love God with every ounce of himself. After a mere two and half months attending The Pointe, Jeff even made the decision to spend his spring break solely helping other people in San Salvador, El Salvador on a Mission Trip with the new-found church that he had grown to love so much.
Today, after nearly eight months at The Pointe, Jeff is depending on God more than he ever has in his entire life, and he feels he is finally falling in alignment with what God intends his life to be.
Jeff is grateful for his grandparents, who he admires greatly for their dedication to the Lord by counseling people and helping them get back on track with their faith.
"My grandparents are helping people find and follow Jesus every day," said Jeff. "And that's exactly what I'd like to do when I get older."
Currently, Jeff is fortunate that he's found a way to do that through his high school.
" I'm doing the same thing that I hope to do when I get older, counseling. Ever since I decided to go to San Salvador, I have been counseling people, not just the way I used to with people's problems, but also just as my grandparents doin helping people grow stronger and rebuild or even build relationships with God. Because of the things I have experienced, it is easy for me to relate to other people, understand them, and help them understand what’s happening, why they're doing what they're doing, and how they can stop.
Jeff has also been spending time on Sundays helping out with electronics and teaching during Upstreet and Kidstuff hours. Serving God is both important and also something Jeff enjoys, and since he’s such a kid himself, he also really loves spending time with and getting to know each and every one of the children on Sunday mornings.
I love kids! They're so goofy, and I love to laugh and make others smile, so helping out in the kids program has really been fun. Plus, it’s nice just to help out.
